Unfold made several contributions to Thomas Lommée's OpenStructures project, and exhibition at Z33 Hasselt.

The OS (OpenStructures) project explores the possibility of a modular construction model where everyone designs for everyone on the basis of one shared geometrical grid. It initiates a kind of collaborative Meccano to which everybody can contribute parts, components and structures.

Unfold's contribution consists of:

Two coffee mills for which we defined an OS compatible interface. The coffee mills where retrofitted with this interface so that different bean feeders and receptacles could be mounted. Those objects where made by several other designers and some, like the PET bottle feeder, by ourselves.

Unfold's Intern Lise Foré designed a modular bowl system that could be used for example as fruit-bowl or sieve. They are visible on the bottom shelve of the exhibit.

An IKEA kitchen module was investigated and adapted for OS compatibility. If there is one company that benefits from modularity and interchangeability it must be IKEA. We found that some of their elements are already OS compliant like the legs and off course the outside dimensions of a kitchen block. Other OS elements where integrated like a second hand drawer front and we designed a pull handle that was printed on our 3d printer.

The pull handle, mill adapters and a handful of other 3d printed example parts like OS Lego blocks where on display in the parts cabinet.
